Features：
Relative density 1.4 with a strong pungent odor. Soluble in water (54g/100ml water at 20 °C; 100°C is 81.7 g/100 ml of water), the aqueous solution is acidic. Soluble in glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol. Contact with strong acids releases sulfur dioxide to form corresponding salts. Decomposes by heating to 150 °C. If it is placed in the air for a long time, it is oxidized to sodium sulfate (it is easy to decompose when damp, and it is easy to oxidize into sodium sulfate in the exposed air), so sodium metabisulfite cannot be stored for a long time.
Application：
1.Used as chromatographic reagents, preservatives and reducing agents in the dye and pharmaceutical industries;
2.The food industry is used as bleach, preservative, loosening agent, antioxidant, color protector and preservative.
3.The pharmaceutical industry is used for the production of chloroform, phenylpropanol and benzaldehyde. The rubber industry is used as a coagulant. The printing and dyeing industry is used as cotton bleaching dechlorination agent and cotton refining auxiliary. The leather industry is used in leather treatment, which can make the leather soft, plump, tough, waterproof, foldable, wear-resistant, etc. The chemical industry is used to produce hydroxyl vanillin, hydroxylamine hydrochloride, etc. The photosensitive industry is used as a developer, etc.
4.Water treatment: Sodium metabisulfite is a reducing agent, which is used in sewage treatment as a treatment of chromium-containing wastewater.
Packing：
Sodium metabisulfite is packaged in double layers, with food grade polyethylene plastic bags on the inside and plastic woven bags on the outside. Each bag weighs 25 kg, 50 kg and 1000 kg. The outside of the package is printed with the words "food additive sodium metabisulfite" and the "moisture-proof and heat-proof" warning.
Storage and transportation condition：
The warehouse where sodium metabisulfite is stored should be dry and cool to prevent moisture and heat from deteriorating, keep the packaging intact, and strictly prohibit co-storage with oxidants and toxic and harmful substances. The storage period is preferably six months from the date of production. Means of transport must be clean and should have a cover to prevent rain from getting wet.
